Welcome to the nixwilliams song a week project, 2007: does what it says on the tin.
This project is vaguely in the same vein as things such as NaNoWriMo, NaArMaMo and ScriptFrenzy, but it’s the work of one person and it’s musical and weekly rather than novelicious and monthly and so on. Yes, I realise there are only a few months left to the year, but if this is successful then I’ll continue it in 2008.
What I will do:
Each week I will upload a recording of one of my own songs, and write a bit about it. I’ll include the lyrics, a bit of background information on the story or the process, how I recorded the track, what instruments or vocal techniques I used, that sort of thing. The song might be hot off the press, or it might be one I recorded ages ago. They might be serious, they might be fannish, they might be experimental, they might be a capella, they might be very short. They will nearly all be what I call “drafts” – that is, slightly less polished than a demo. Often I record much like I would draw – I lay down certain lines and shading that later get recorded over or re-molded into different shapes. This means that there’s often a lot of mess and background noise – let’s just say I’m embracing the lo-fi aesthetic!
What I’d like from this:
More than anything, this project will let me share my music with other people – something I love doing, but don’t always have the opportunity, ability or desire to do through live performance. I would love to have feedback on the songs, too – constructive criticism, suggestions, questions, enthusiasm, even just a note to say you downloaded the song, or you like a particular line. Hopefully having such a forum will keep me productive and engaged with what I’m doing.
Thank you for visiting, and I hope you find it interesting!
